Step One: How you got where you are today

paul February 10, 2023

Before we can reach out into the future to define where you want to be years from now, it is valuable to spend some time considering where you came from and how you came to becoming the person you are today.

The time and energy that you put into the following questions will determine the value that you get out of them. We recommend using at least an hour or two writing in a journal on the following:

Question 1:

– Think back over the story of your life. What are the 1 – 3 most important decisions that you have taken that have influenced who you are and where you are today? What were the underlying motivations that made you take those decisions – what goals or results were you trying to reach towards? Were did you get the idea from that those were the things you wanted? And how far have you succeeded so far?

Question 2:

– What are your greatest regrets in your life. If you have a problem with using the word regrets, then what are things that you have done that have brought you or others close to you the most pain and suffering?

Question 3:

– What have been your strengths? What do you do with ease which other people struggle with? Which gifts and talents have you received from life which have enabled you to create value for others around you?

Question 4:

What have been the most valuable principles which have guided you in life and which you have found you can rely on? Are there some principles and values which you have relied on and which you have come to realise are no longer useful? And are there areas where you have become unsure of your approach or are seeking new understanding, clarity and direction at the moment?
